Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle On Cloud Nine After Smooth Launch

The PSLV-C20 carrying the Indo-French satellite SaralIndia’s workhorse launch vehicle PSLV-C20 successfully placed in their designated orbits the IndoFrench satellite Saral, and six other smaller satellites, on Monday.

The launch, witnessed among others by President Pranab Mukherjee, was delayed by five minutes to avoid collision with space debris.

Serial blasts rock Hyderabad
The twin blasts at Dilsukhnagar triggered a total shut down of the old city with a large number of traders voluntarily shutting their shops and the police ordering the closure of the remaining establishments.

Almost a curfew- like situation prevailed by 9 pm in the old city. A high alert has been sounded all over the state and police has intensified its frisking operations.

The state unit of the BJP on Sunday demanded a CBI probe into the assets of evangelist Brother Anil Kumar and his wife Y.S. Sharmila Reddy, daughter of the late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy .

Addressing a media conference on Sunday, chief spokesperson of the BJP's state unit N.V.S.S. Prabhakar said that Anil Kumar had illegally acquired four acres of prime land in Manikonda in the capital, and demanded that the government take back the land.

Sarojini Pulla Reddy passes away at age 85

Congress leader and former minister Sarojini Pulla Reddy
Veteran Congress leader and former minister Sarojini Pulla Reddy passed away in the early hours of Sunday at her Bowenpally residence. She was 85.

She was the first woman Mayor of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in 1965. She was also minister for municipal administration, information and public relations and women and child welfare in various ministries between 1978 and 1982.

Stretching a helping hand, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Thursday said the government would ‘facilitate’ resolution of the Vishwaroopam conflict if Kamal Haasan and the Muslim organisations sit together and work out an amicable agreement. The filmmaker had agreed to delete some offensive portions in the movie and the Muslim leaders “seem to be in the frame of mind to accept that”, she told a crowded press conference at the Secretariat here.
