PC: Verma panel's ideas not rejected

Activists demand harsher punishments and quicker trials for rape cases, in New Delhi
The Centre clarified on Monday that none of the recommendations of the committee headed by former Chief Justice of India J.S. Verma on strengthening laws to protect women had been rejected, and said the ordinance on sexual assault had been promulgated to meet the “universal demand” for a law at the earliest on the basis of the broadest consensus available.
