Passenger Woes City Autorickshaw Drivers Take Commuters for a Ride

Got into a verbal brawl with an autorickshaw driver recently because he adamantly refused to go by the meter? Nothing new. You probably heard “pachchas hoinga” pronounced in a proud tone — a whopping price for just 3 kilometers! Well, you’re not the only one being “taken for a ride” in the city. The travel travails of Hyderabadis — meter tampering and autorickshaw drivers not agreeing to go to the commuter’s desired destination — are getting worse. Almost all the drivers quote exorbitant prices for even small distances. “I had to go from Dilsukhnagar to New Malakpet and the auto drivers asked for `70 when by the meter it wouldn’t cost more than `30,” grumbled Satya Kari, from Moosarambagh.
