The Union Cabinet on Thursday decided in principle to create the 29th
state of the Indian Union by carving out from Andhra Pradesh the state
of Telangana.
Two months after the Congress Working Committee and the UPA coordination panel approved the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh state, which was formed in 1956, the Union Cabinet directed that a Group of Ministers be formed to formulate the Telangana Bill and work on related legal and administrative matters.
