Coolpad to invest $300 million in India

Chinese mobile-maker Coolpad is eyeing a big share of the Indian low-cost smartphone market with a plan to launch one device every quarter and one flagship device on a half yearly basis. For this, it intends to invest $300 million over the next three years.

“The tremendous response that we got for our first handset in October last year has emboldened us to invest this money,”Coolpad India’s chief executive officer Syed Tajuddin told Financial Chronicle.

“After the launch, we realised that Indian customers look very closely at hardware specifications when they buy such devices as they are more educated in technical aspects.”
