ARC biz set to buzz with more action

Now that the regulatory hurdles are out of the way, foreign funds are actively looking at the Indian stressed assets market. Many special situation funds and debt-oriented FPIs are exploring investment opportunities in the bad loan market by initiating talks with asset reconstruction companies (ARCs) in the country. Experts feel the pass-through status provided to the investment vehicles in the last Union budget enables foreign funds operating from treaty countries to invest in the bad loan market.

Birendra Kumar, MD and CEO, International Asset Reconstruction Company (IARC), told Financial Chronicle, “Though there is foreign interest in the sector, we will get clear visibility only after the Sarfaesi Act is amended and the Fema guidelines are issued.”
