A joint initiative of Cyberabad police and Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) named ‘Project Safe Stay’ in 2015 to ensure safety of women professionals staying in hostels and PG accommodations in Cyberabad commissionerate has managed to garner only around 50 per cent positive affirmation from the hostel owners. Though police made it mandatory for them to register their premises within the stipulated time, there were very few takers for the project. This is nothing but a big question mark on the safety of women staying in illegal private hostels. Harassments and missing cases have been reported in hostels several times in the last few years, but there was no proper vigil on private homes.
Estimates suggest that the number of women’s hostels in and around the city’s IT corridor stands at a little over 300.
