15 ft Ganesh idols ideal: HC

Suggesting that Ganesh idols below 15 feet height would be ideal, the Hyderabad high court on Monday urged that Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi and the state government should take steps to ensure that the height of the idols at pandals during Ganesh Chaturthi shall not exceed the `ideal height'.

The division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice P Naveen Rao made the observation dealing with a petition by advocate Mamidi Venu Madhav, who charged the authorities with ignoring the court's earlier orders in this regard.

“Separate bins must be arranged at the lakes during immersion of Ganesh idols to dispose of the puja material instead of dumping it in the lakes along with idols, Justice Bhosale said.

The Maharashtra government arranges such bins at the immersion points, Justice Bhosale added. The bench told the state government and the Greater Hyderabad Muni cipal Corporation (GHMC) to ensure that only natural colours are used in making of Ganesh idols. While asking the government to file a report detailing the steps taken for reduction of the height of the idols and also cleaning of Hussainsagar after the immersions, the bench adjourned the case.
