Terror strikes Bangla again, this time on Eid

Less than a week after 28 people were killed in a terrorist strike at a cafe, Islamic extremists hurled homemade bombs, traded gunfire and stabbed policemen guarding an Eid prayer service attended by hundreds of thousands of people on Thursday , killing two officers, a woman and an assailant.

More than a dozen people gathered at the sprawling Sholakia grounds in Kishoreganj, around 90km north of Dhaka, received gunshot or bomb shrapnel wounds; the condition of at least six is critical. The woman was hit inside her home as a stray bullet pierced a window. While no outfit claimed responsibility, information mninister Hasanul Haq Inu said the attacks were carried out by domestic militants as a “political move“, aimed at toppling the Sheikh Hasina government. “We have been able to capture three attackers, they are being interrogated now,“ he said, adding that police were the target.
