Wife, daughter of officer held for graft kill selves

The arrest of a senior corporate affairs ministry official in a bribery case took a tragic turn on Tuesday, when his wife and daughter allegedly committed suicide in their home.

Satyabala, 58, and Neha, 27, were found hanging in different rooms of their Madhu Vihar home early afternoon. The women left behind two suicide notes in which they did not hold anyone responsible for the action but said they felt depressed and humiliated after CBI raids at their home. Neha was to get married in two months. Satyabala's husband B K Bansal, director-general of corporate affairs, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly accepting a Rs 9-lakh bribe from a pharma firm run by TV actor Anuj Saxena. The agency had searched the Bansals' home on Monday.

Bansal's son Yogesh was not at home when the alleged suicides took place. He was detained for questioning by the CBI on Saturday, and hasn't returned home since.Later, the agency said none of Bansal's family members were under investigation. Police said one of the two maids found Satyabala hanging from a fan in her bedroom. Later, cops broke open the door of Neha's room, and found she too had hanged herself.
