Despite the State Government sanction of between Rs 25,000 and Rs.75, 000 to every police station including Counter Intelligence, Special Branch and Special Operations Team for maintenance of the police stations and enhancement of salaries of policemen by 43 per cent, corrupt practices are still thriving in different police wings.

The recent suicide of Kukunoorpally sub-inspector B Ramakrishna Reddy not only exposed the rampant corruption in the police department but also put on display that the concept of hiking police station maintenance amount failed to create any impact on ‘mamool raj.’ After the sub-inspector’s suicide, several lower-level officials discussed the harassment meted out to them by higher officials. There were also allegations that senior officials assign monthly targets to CIs and SIs.
